Dear Mr Drippy,
I understand that you raised a query with my colleague xxx xxxxxxx
yesterday about the appearance of Severn Trent in the advert placed in the Guardian by BAA setting out a number of companies supporting the need for the third runway at Heathrow airport.
You may not be aware, but Severn Trent is one of the few major British Companies that has a healthy and growing international business. We employ around 3000 people around the world delivering fresh water and sanitation
solutions with the income and profit coming back to the UK (along with the appropriate tax revenues for the UK government). As our business grows, it is increasingly important that we can deploy our expertise quickly and
efficiently as our clients require.
As a company with a major regional presence here in the UK with Severn Trent Water, we make the best use we can of the regional travel hubs that are available to us, particularly rail and air travel from the hubs of Birmingham and the East Midlands. However, to get to the territories that
we cover, we need efficient access from the international hubs as well.
For us to compete effectively on a global basis and continue to grow, we simply need better access.
For that reason, we are supportive of the need for the third runway at
Heathrow.
I hope that adequately explains our position and that you might agree that maintaining our international competitiveness is in the best interests of UK plc.
Regards
Tony Wray

Boycott Severn Trent
17.09.2008 07:32
If you are feel the same way as me we can protest by exercising our democratic right and boycott Severn Trent. Indeed was it not the promise of privatisation that we would have more choice.
Er, ah.. oh bugger.....
Anyone got a plan B?
