Once again the police having only consulted with the restaurant and not spoken to the activists to obtain a more balanced perspective, attempted to suppress the protest, this time by using section 14 of the public order act 1986. Various assembly conditions were imposed by several officers on the scene including a ban on the use of megaphones, and eventually the protesters were told they could only continue their protest from a distance (a little further down and on the opposite side of the road) where they could not talk to customers of the restaurant in question.
The following day (15/12/07) saw further actions as part of a national day of action against Foie Gras.
In Nottingham now only Merchants (part of the Lace Market hotel), French Living and Alea (a casino), have this unpopular item on the menu.
great campaign despite free speech attacks by police bosses

Police are sadly allying themselves against totally non violent, non invasive protesters who haven't even blockaded or engaged in property damage.
Just shows how desperate & sad these restuarants & police are for choosing to stop free speech.
Wonder if they sent legal threats to the sad nazi combat18 website Redwatch which has picture of a foi gras demo in Nottingham. If any nonviolent animal rights or peace group had put up a picture of an animal abuser, calling for non violent action they have the FBI or M15 booting their door down.
Why are redwatch & BNP as well religious extremists allowed to openly threaten & use violence against protesters & get away with it still?,
then hide behind free speech?.
The police are now finding out though despite their loyalty to government & corporations promises to them on pay have been betrayed.
If only they stood up for human rights, fairness & against corporate exploitation & ignored crap corporate law, maybe they would get a lot of support
