The 4th East Midlands Vegan Festival, 8th December 2007

Notts Vegan | 27.11.2007 09:24 | Animal Liberation | Climate Chaos | Health | Sheffield

The 2007 event returns to the Council House on Nottingham's Old Market Square where, in 2005, we welcomed over 2000 visitors from across the region! The doors open at 11am, but we welcome help setting up from 9am (and in advance).

Once again the Festival will feature food, clothing, toiletries, cosmetics, gift and campaign stalls, as well as vegan food samples and advice to promote vegan lifestyles for the benefit of people, animals and the environment.

Your help is invited: call 0845 458 9595 or email  veganfestival@veggies.org.uk

The festival will be followed by a social at the all-vegan Sumac Centre, with a People's Kitchen Meal, an open deck 'bedroom dj' session and other festivities.

Our choice of diet is critical to the survival of the planet - a massive proportion of climate change is caused by livestock farming and the production of meat/dairy products. So if you cannot make it to the Vegan festival perhaps you can attend the National Climate March to "demand that world leaders take the urgent action we need to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate". The National Demo in London will be one of many demonstrations on climate taking place all around the world on the same day, midway through the UN Climate Talks in Bali.

Kiss-a-carnivore ?

27.11.2007 11:22

New Scientist has an blog that mentions vegansexuals - people who don't fuck meat eaters.

 http://www.newscientist.com/blog/shortsharpscience/2007/08/vegansexual.html
She was carrying out research into cruelty-free consumption in New Zealand when she came across a number of people – the majority of whom were female – who were squeamish about being sexual with meat-eaters, and didn’t like the thought of being physical with a body “composed of / from dead animals”.
I know there are vegans who will fuck a meat-eater but not kiss them. I know vegans who won't even kiss a vegetarian. These are personal decisions that are partly taste, partly principle. The same tactic has been used on a large, organised scale into sex strikes. New Zealand women, protesting something like a rugby tour in apartheid South Africa, went on a sex strike before. Columbian women went on a sex strike until their boyfriends promised to give up violence. Lysistrata ( she who disbands armies ) shows the heritage of this tactic.  http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Lysistrata

Come on you have to Kiss em for trying, then keep em wanting more

27.11.2007 15:18

I reckon sex strikes worked because there was already relations there,
Lie back & kiss em for veganism & if they try give it to em.
If we just withhold our bodies strictly without love, woudnt it create alot of bitterness?

love

... but seriously folks ...

Changing Lives - Our Future Depends On It
Changing Lives - Our Future Depends On It

Everyone concerned for human or animal rights/welfare, or for the environment, is invited to become more involved in the East Midlands Vegan Festival, to be held on December 8 at the Council House, Old Market Square, Nottingham.

You may wish to support the event to benefit:
People - Livestock consume soy, grain and precious water supplies, while people starve.
Animals - All animal products create animal exploitation.
The Planet - Go vegan to cut your eco-footprint and your impact on the climate
... more at  http://www.vegansociety.com/

There are a number of ways in which you could help both before and on the day.
Letting the organisers know by email in advance will help the event run more smoothly, and also give you the chance to pick a task you will enjoy.

It is up to you how much time and energy you contribute. It doesn't matter whether or not you have been involved in the event until now or attended previous ones. What matters is an enthusiasm for promoting the message put forward by the event. There will never be 'too many' (or maybe even 'enough') people involved, so drop us a line if you want to become involved in any way. A list of tasks is included below.

Before the event you could:

- distribute fliers and/or posters at work, school, college or around your neighbourhood.

- promote the event to any social group, email list etc that you are part of

- put a link to this page on your website, blog, myspace/facebook, email signature:  http://www.eastmidlandsveganfestival.co.uk/

- forward this message to all your friends

- help with advance food preparation, particularly on the Friday afternoon and evening

On the day, help is needed to:

- set up the venue in advance, from 9am

- provide transport to bring food and equipment to the Council House

- help arriving stall holders to find their pitch and set up

- welcome people and give directions in the venue, from 11am

- distribute fliers in the square to promote the event

- sell tombola tickets & collect mailing list details

- co-ordinate food sampling / tea&coffee area

- workshop co-ordination - welcomes, seats, clearing environment

- MC - announcing workshops and a rolling summary of stallholders

- hospitality - tea and coffee to stall-holders.

- assist Vegan Buddies whilst they do a workshop

- help with stalls for which the organisers have responsibility, including Plamil, Yaoh, Veggies Catering, Nottm AR, MCL/Vegfam

The 4th East Midlands Vegan Festival will be on the 8th December 2007
