Gordon Brown is due to make a statement on Iraq to Parliament when it reconvenes. The Stop the War Coalition is aiming to influence him: First, with a protest in Nottingham on Saturday (29 September); Second, with a demonstration outside Parliament on Monday, 8 October.
FIRST: In Nottingham
Come to the Market Square at 12:30pm, Saturday lunchtime (29 September) to protest at 1pm outside the Council House.
We will have a coffin-shaped placard for each member of the British Armed Forces killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will read out their names.
We will also remember the unknown and uncounted Iraqi and Afghani dead.
Alan Simpson MP (Labour, Nottingham South) will speak.
SECOND: In London
Join us on a coach to London to demonstrate outside Parliament on Monday, 8 October. This is the day Parliament reconvenes.
We will leave from outside the Salutation Inn on Maid Marion Way at 8:00am (Monday, 8 October).

WHAT’S THE POINT?
Gordon Brown is due to make a statement on Iraq when parliament returns in October. The point of all this is to maximise pressure on him to withdraw troops from Iraq and break with Bush.
Stop the War has launched an open letter to Brown calling for troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and no attack on Iran (see
http://tinyurl.com/254ukp). We are collecting signatures now. Local MP, Alan Simpson has signed, as have three Nottingham City Councillors.
Saturday 29 September is 10 days before parliament reconvenes and has been designated as a national day of local actions to bring the troops home.
The demonstration outside Parliament has been called for the day it reconvenes to keep up the pressure on Gordon Brown before his Iraq statement.
The letter to Brown will be handed in, and other anti war activities will be organised in London on the day.
This is a Monday, so we are especially dependent on the minority who are free to go.
