On 1 February Rushcliffe Borough Council granted permission to British Geological Survey Keyworth for a 5kw Iskra turbine, with a 5m diameter rotor on a 12 m mast, 300 metres from the nearest house.
Despite the predicted generation of 9,000 kwh and the saving of 4,100kg of CO2 a year, three Lib Deb councillors voted to reject the application. Permission was granted by majority as the Green Party, Labour and even Conservative councillors supported the application.
Lib Dem councillor David Allen objected stating that it was a matter of pain and gain. He said does the "global warming" gain outweigh the noise pain? As it is such a small turbine then it is not going to have much of an effect on global warming.
If we all took this attitude, we would not bother with energy efficient light bulbs or loft insulation! Politicians must start acting if we are to tackle the greatest threat we all face that of climate change.
Please contact the Councillors below who voted against the application and tell them what you think. Remind them of what it states in their manifesto;
"All our policies have a green thread running through them because damage to our environment damages personal health, impoverishes economies and weakens communities. But achieving sustainability cannot be done by one government department alone"

But no more, even the Tories voted for the wind farm!
What politicians say and what they do is two different things, I believe we should expose these b***ards, may be next time they'll think twice!
Its time to put ecology BEFORE economy !

The Lib Debs got our trust, vote for us and we will improve recyling, we won't build the incinertor.
Guess what, they got in power and built the incinerator.
And the Lib Dems even had the cheak to support the NAIL campaign in Nottingham !
Can we ever trust them, I certainly can't.

They are just doing their job...

Being a local resident I have watched these particular Lib/Dem politicians over the years and had dealings with them which leads me to conclude that they are simply opportunists who will do or say anything to increase their chances in elections. They even claim credit for things other local parties achieve and yes, as Little B points out, even things that are achieved by the efforts of local people.
But it would be unfair to pick on the local Lib Dems in particular. They are after all just party politicains doing what all politicians do in this so-called democracy. The sooner all politicans are sacked (they are all redundant anyway) the sooner we as people can get on with building a better world which cares for the environment, the other creatures with whom we share it and all the people of this and future generations.
