NAIL campaign make further 'banner drops' in Sneinton - piccys 2

NAIL campaign make further 'banner drops' in Sneinton - piccys 2

Further to the success of Mondays (6th March) gathering / protest when people from the Nottingham Against Incineration and Landfill (NAIL) campaign, handed over 3019 signatures to councillors at the Council House, Market Square, further action had been planned.

On Tuesday, more concerned local residence did a further banner drop in a couple of street in Sneinton. The last being done in November last year, also being considered a great success.

Neighbours and local residence came out in support, to show that people in Nottingham prefer clean air and recycling to waste turned into pollution.

Starting in the morning, a banner was hung across Lord Nelson Street, proclaiming the message:

"Breath Easy" + "Clean Air?"

After a little refreshment, folks went on to Sneinton Boulevard where another was hung in the shadow of the monstrosity at issue.

"Stop the Incineration Expansion" + "Give Sneinton Better Recycling Facilities".

It was cold, wet, windy and raining, but folks persevered, and all hoisted up to a cheer.

All was going swimmingly until ..... the forces of oppression arrived to try and spoil the party.

"Who gave you permission to do that here?" was the opening repost of our friendly Neighbourhood warden. "Take that down now". Folk then received the attention of 3 wardens [you can never find one, when you want one, can you?]. Polite words were exchanged. I was told to stop taking photographs [again]. I pointed out it was a public place and thus persisted ..... However, as you see, he did think it was alright to take our photograph. ['tis all a mystery, innit :-)]

The Team Leader 9950 scowled, and went away to take further advice over his mobile phone.

The banner went up, and was made safe. Some of the neighbours came out and said all was ok with them. And all went away ....!

Have included a short recording of the scene, just to give a flavour of the exchange. :-)

This is the previous banner drop, from back in November 2005:

I wish them success with the campaign, and expect to see more of this going on.

Nothing better to do, officer?

Come on surely neighbourhood wardens have something better & productive to do.
Anyway, Iam sure people in Sneinton especially thugs & muggers appreciate your vigilance in trying to thwart democracy.
Keep it up, Iam sure your mum loves you
I thought we paid council for vital services, not repression & toxic air & the profit of WRG's owner fat cat Guy Hands

Beautiful banners.

Your banners look fantastic. Well done guys. It's ironic that the incinerator has had 31 pollution breaches in the last 4 years and WRG have had nothing more than a few letters from the E.A, some informative banners go up and 3 wardens tip up with recording equipment and get all arsey. Nice one law enforcers - why don't you try enforcing the law where it matters and when people are being poisoned by pollution and why don't you point your cameras on that incinerator chimney stack where there is real criminal activity going on in the name of profit.

In the third pic from the bottom it looks like people are trying to hide their faces from the wardens, or whoever. With that in mind, if it appears people are trying to hide their faces in future, would it not make sense to blur out their features before posting pics of them on the net?

Nice pics, otherwise.
