Fascists humiliated in Liverpool

Anti-fascist | 04.11.2012 16:39 | Anti-racism | Liverpool

After the far-right flops of Walthamstow rounds 1 and 2, another British fascist group has been humiliated, this time in Liverpool...

Pitiful far-right 'national mobilisation' in Liverpool
Pitiful far-right 'national mobilisation' in Liverpool

With NWI calling a national callout ‘against IRA marches in Liverpool’ (code name for spreading anti-irish racism, especially since February) various antifascist groups set about organising counter demos, fash facebook pages and blogs kept pumping out about people coming from far and wide to the demo and keeping meeting places secret.

On the day however only roughly 20 of the fash turned up, this was met by a joint mobilisation of antifascists who outnumbered them 3-1, as the fash settled comfortably into their police protected protest area near the town hall another 20 antifascists turned up and stood amongst the fash, the fash then backed off and stood looking uncomfortable until police moved into to move the antifascists to their proper place.

Unsurprisingly the fash became suddenly more vocal once the police safety was reinforced, but this just further added to their humiliation, one fascist was keen to remind antifascists that ‘the police are on our side not yours’ roughly translated and taking the events into consideration i believe this meant ‘These police wont let you get us’ the police had several attempts at kettling antifascists, which didn’t seem too effective and many managed to break the line.

Far right poster boy and jail bird Liam Pinkham bumped into a group of militant antifascists and recieved a taste of his own medicine, for his first demo since his release from prison this should really make him question his involvement in politics all together.

Last night was a really successful night for antifascism in Liverpool, everyone played to their strengths, there was a counter demonstration that massively outnumbered the fascist mobilisation, and sizeable groups were scouting and looking for fash outside of the demo.

Don't get too complacent about next week because of this. Infidels turned out about 100 in Sunderland a few weeks ago for a regional mobilisation; think of orcs crossed with goblins. They chuck bangers and rocks and the bizzies do nowt. Local youth probably saved the day, just saying...

Code name for spreading anti-irish racism?

04.11.2012 22:06

So much for all that nonsense we read on Indymedia about the far-right taking over Liverpool, but good on ya for defeating the Fascists. However, if the NWI mobilising ostensibly "against IRA marches in Liverpool" is supposed to be "code name for spreading anti-irish racism", how come the NWI are using opposition to Republican flute bands to try to attract support from Irish protestants?!

Liverpool Anti-Fascists and class politics?

04.11.2012 23:52

On the positive side, if "someone" jumped Birkenhead Nazi / NWI activist Liam Pinkham "while he was out having a quite (sic) drink" (see screen-shot), that means Pinkham wasn't attending the NWI demo, which means NWI couldn't even get their most devoted activists to show up for their own demo.

On the negative side, a report that Searchlight claim was "written by Liverpool Anti-Fascists" says that "Anti-fascism is a class issue" (which is patently bollocks) and says that "Liverpool Antifascists are critical of those who fight the far-right on the basis of cross-class alliances" (no wonder the Liverpool AF group is so small). How strange that the Searchlight article was not the same report that was published on Liverpool Antifascists' own website!

The L-AF website does say that "the only long term solution to the problem of fascism is a strong working class movement, fighting for people’s livelihoods" (which I pretty much agree with), however if you want to preach to the converted, if you want to isolate antifascism to a tiny ghetto of ultra-leftists and militant anarchists, at the expense of engaging aspirational migrants who are on the front-line of racist violence (ie - Asian shop keepers etc), being "critical of those who fight the far-right on the basis of cross-class alliances" seems a pretty good way to dig yourself into that hole.

Maybe if what you're really promoting is class war politics, then maybe L-AF should chose a name that describes their actual politics - a name like "Class War"?! And if you're more interested in class struggle than in antifascism, you shouldn't call yourself Liverpool "Anti-Fascists", just in case any non-hard-lefties and non-anarchos get the wrong idea and think you give a fuck about such racism as they experience?!

So is now protesting against the IRA is racist?

05.11.2012 11:35

So is now protesting against the IRA racist? The so called anti-fascist know no bounds to its stupidity. That is why I left the anti-fascist movement 20 years ago! Don't get me wrong I still hate the BNP, Blood and Honour and the National Front but when you start demonstrating against people who have no racist agenda merely because you don't agree with their politics then you are betraying the ideals of the anti-fascists movement.

Have you even looked at anything the NWI have said? If you have, and you still think they have 'no racist agenda' then it's a bloody good job you're no longer an anti-fascist!

Check out some of the folk behind it. Pino (as mentioned in the article) for example has been weaving his way around fascist circles for a few years now; Autonomous Nationalists UK, British Freed Fighters, National Front etc. All with openly racist and even neo-Nazi affiliations and beliefs. Not racist? Pffft.

Remember this criticism of the EDL?

05.11.2012 13:14

Remember this criticism of the EDL? Maybe you wont but back in 2009 this complaint about the EDL, NWI, Casuals United etc was doing the rounds. Here it is:

"The EDL are hypocrites, if they want to demonstrate against terrorism then why don't they protest against the IRA who have killed far more people in Britain than Islamic terrorists ever had".

Then when they do decide to protest against the IRA they still get slagged off, well you can't have it both ways. And by the way just to remind you how bad the IRA were  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPnH3kXGR_I

You can't have it both ways

It was not an anti-Irish demo just an anti-IRA protest! Don't you even know the difference between an anti-IRA protest and an anti-Irish one?

"Yawn"? Yes, you are half asleep, thanks for proving the obvious

When you wake up, any chance of you and/or L-AF answering the point?!
