Police helicopters, Noise Pollution and the middle Classes.

LR | 14.06.2008 00:59 | Liverpool

The occurence of police helicopter hovering over Liverpool City centre for hours on end seems to have dropped to zero since the beginning on the year- hmmm, why could that be.

Could it be the Capital of Culture- not very impressive for tourists to feel they're in a continuous cop b movie- but it's Ok for the usual plebs who live here.

Begs the question- just how useful are they if the police feel they can do without them for a whole year- and if they're not effective then why are we paying for it.

The police should account for their actions on this- but that would require a police authority with an ounce of front.

The saga of the North Wales helipad.

14.06.2008 12:50

In North Wales the Police sited their helicopter landing pad near to houses, so near that this caused severe noise for residents when it took off. A resident had the nerve to complain about the nuisance caused by the North Wales Police and the result was that they persecuted him for years afterwards.

The chap appeared in court so much he was on first name terms with the magistrates.

Despite attempting to get some recognition for his harassment, all he got was more troubles. When he started mentioning the involvement of masons in the council and Police his problems became worse.

Plod thinks it can ride/fly roughshod over all clearly.

If the number of air hours has fallen

26.06.2008 18:40

The total number of air hours is logged and should be available even if that requires a freedom of information request to be lodged. Relate the figures (it would make sense to ask for a weekly or monthly breakdown) for air hours to the per capita crime level for the same period. This will show what the crime rate is with and without the toy. If it falls, then it means it is a pointless exercise. If it rises there are serious questions to be asked about Police reliance on technologies that are expensive.

The same exercise, but relating air hours to total Police budget also shows the cost effectiveness of the Helicopter. As with video evidence, the reliance on Helicopter technologies may have reached a point where they promote lawlessness rather than decrease it. If they ever did decrease crime.

A pedant

Trouble with this approach is that:

30.06.2008 00:13

It exposes the person to intimidation and hassles from the police, its costly and time consuming. Also -lies, statistics etc, the helicopter may be being used but not in the city centre- not to disturb our visitors consuming their corporate culture.
Anyone know of a member of the council/police authority who would push this?

police state

15.08.2008 14:30

i'd noticed myslef recently that the police helicopter had been out almost every day and night for about the last month now over kirkby and i can have no other conclusion that this is just another strand of the web thats being weved and go's hand in hand with all the other laws and infringments that have been placed against us

i did see a video about some kind of radar technology that the helicopters in the states were fitted with a few years back which can apparently penitrate through 4 feet of concrete so weather or not we've got them im not sure, but it would explain them being out and when you consider they've kicked peoples door in because the heat signal device they have picked up an unusual heat source only to discover its a faulty boiler...they didnt pay for the door either
