Sainsbury's Merseyside Depot Blocked

merseyside blockade posse | 02.07.2004 04:16 | Bio-technology | Liverpool

A successful, 4 hour, no arrest, no equipment lost blockade with plenty of support from Sainsbury's packers and drivers...protesting CM crop fed milk in Sainsbury's.

A 30 strong posse of protesters from Manchester, Leeds, Hebden Bridge and Lancaster headed down from Manchester and headed by a variety of routes to the Sainbury's distributioon depot by the Haydock roundabout on the M6. We turned up and locked together in a 7 strong arm-tube circle in front of the main gate. An emergency gate was simultaneously blockaded by a car and a motorcycle lock. The main gate was also locked up with D-locks. Police didn't turn up for over an hour. The lorry drivers and packers inside the depot showed good humoured support throughout (some of them on overtime!). After many hours of negotiation we agreed to leave at 3am (the hour we had agreed among ourselves to start with) before we were cut out. Sadly we forgot the kryptonite locks that were still locking both gates when we left. Sorry boys you might need that cutting equipment afterall.
Good night, high spirits, no arrests and a huge tailback of sainsburys lorries.

BBC report

Here what the BBC said about Brum - not sure how much to trust its accuracy since it doesn't even mention GM!!! -
"They are believed to have been protesting about the stocking of dairy products at the store. " - LOL

the whole thing:

Arrests after supermarket protest

Twelve people have been arrested following a protest outside a supermarket distribution centre.
Police said 22 people blocked a road near to a Sainsbury's depot on the Hams Hall Industrial Estate, Coleshill, at 0200 BST on Friday.

They are believed to have been protesting about the stocking of dairy products at the store.

It is understood police were waiting at the centre after Sainsbury's learnt of a possible demonstration.

Some protesters secured themselves to obstacles which they had erected across the road while others linked themselves together, police said.

The group voluntarily released themselves about 0730 BST on Friday and were then arrested for obstructing the highway.

A total of 50 officers were involved in the dispute

fair play to the Brummies if they really did stay til 7.30.

I wonder how much this has cost Sainsbury's. :D

Sorry troll

The 'back gate' has no way of communicating with the main depot- we did extensive reccies of the site. Also a friends relative who works there assures us that Hams Hall was at a standstill, and that no such working back gate exists.

Anyway, if we weren't a problem, no one will mind when we come back...
