Activists Boycott Zara Liverpool Store

tangle | 18.09.2003 10:00 | Liverpool

Activists were spotted yesterday on the streets of Liverpool handing out leaflets outside trendy clothes store Zara

Zara stands on the corner of Church Street and Whitechapel in the centre of Liverpool. (just across the road from our other capitalist faves, “sweatshop” Gap and “Mcmurderburger” McDonalds) The protesters handed me this leaflet:

Boycott ZARA
Fashion retailer ZARA is selling garments made from real fur, despite complaints from many customers. Even store managers do not want to sell it but are told to by head office. The company has been provided with evidence of the cruelty of fur farming but will not stop their support for this horrific trade!
The fur on sale in ZARA comes from rabbits who are crammed into bare wire cages, denied the ability to breath fresh air or run or hop. Packed in, up to a dozen in a cage , they will suffer so much that 10% will not even surve to the age at which they are due to be slaughtered. Some rabbits are killed at just 8 weeks old and their fur made into trim and cheap garments, their flesh used for pet food. Others whose fur is used for ‘higher quality’ clothing live in these conditions for 7 months before having their necks broken or their throats slit.

Help End the Suffering

¨ Tell ZARA that you don’t want animals suffering for fashion.
¨ Boycott ZARA until they stop selling all real fur.
¨ Complain to ZARA either complain to the store manager or contact: Managing Director,

i am absolutely horrified that this kind of thing is allowed to go on, in spite of the fact that more people are aware of animal cruelty and child labour. i dont and never have worn real fur only faux fur. and that was years ago. is there anything positive to be done?and i would also like to know why the heirarchy at zara are ignoring the people? it will be to their detriment if they dont listen to public opinion, i for one will certainly stop shopping there until something is done.
