Sabbotage against Glensanda Quarry Expansion

jim | 22.02.2008 11:53 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Globalisation | World

An aggregate processing plant on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park has been sabotaged. The Plant is owned by Bardon Aggregates a member of Aggregate Industries, part of the Holcim Group and owner of the Glensanda Quarry on the north west coast of Scotland.

Glensanda Quarry is Europes biggest coastal superquarry, opperating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and removing granite via it's own port. The quarry currently 125 ha is looking to expand to 206 ha giving it reserves of 814 million tonnes. It extracts 7-8 million tonnes of stone a year, and has permission to increase this to 15 million tonnes. The expansion will remove the peaks "The Mam" and "Lag a 'mhaim" from the skyline and have massive impacts on the ecology of the area including that of species such as otters, seals, and golden eagles. Around 20% of this stone is going to be used in major road construction including the expansion of the road network throughout europe.
A processing plant owned by Bardon Aggregates a Aggregates Industries company was targetted. Vehicles including all bulldozers had holes drilled in vital parts of their engines, and their tires. Both control rooms were broken into and all computers and instrument pannels were smashed. Keys to all buildings and machines were found and removed from the site. A message was left "Stop Glensanda". Aggregate Industries has properties all over the UK and the World, you know what to do!
