Leeds' Last Fur Shop- Ryan Vintage - Demo Details

Er, I'm presuming from its title this shop sells vintage, ie OLD fur, that just hasn't got around to biodegrading yet. This is a world away from buying new in Harrods, or wherever, and fuelling current industry. I suppose you would say burn it, but this is a wicked waste of a perfectly serviceable item, and isn't good for the environment in itself now is it? It died long ago. I know its the principle of the thing for you but I would like to suggest there is a distinction to be made. I remember thinking when I last heard of a coat burning that they would have been better employed giving them away to the homeless or old people, or charity shops. This may have the side effect of taking away any glamour left? And also remember guys, that when the revolution comes and there are just a few humans left trying to subsistance farm, you will probly have to wear fur...sorry.

Be that as it may. The shop isn't giving it away, it is going to profit from the sale of fur where the animals died most likely from a hideous death on a fur farm. It is still clearly a part of the system.

The objection is perhaps two fold:

1. Profiteering from the fur farming industry (a sick industry and not at all in tune with nature)

2. Encouraging other people to wear fur, aka creating a system of the acceptability of animal exploitation for fur.

It may well be that your points are valid for the future, and were in the past, but as far as the present is concerned the industry will be fought, just like the entire animal industry is being fought. The cruelty, abuse, exploitation, domination are unacceptable, some people won't stand by why this takes place, content in their knowledge that all things come to an end.... someday.... the sooner the better.

Anybody wearing real fur is encouraging other people to do it too and especially full lengths like on sale at Ryan Vintage. This is bringing the acceptability of fur coats back onto the high street.

And at the end of the day, it's still fur and the animal still suffered.
