Demo outside Ensus , in Yarm Teeside took place 31st January to coincide with an International week of action on food sovereignty.
On Thursday 31st January 2008, a group of activists and an orphaned orang utan braved the freezing wind and snow and demonstated outside the Ensus Headquarters in Yarm, Teeside.
The Ensus group is owned by the Carlyle Group and Riverstone Holdings. The Ensus group is a bio-ethanol company set up to manufacture ethanol in different European countries.
A spokesperson from Biofuelwatch Neil Bye said :'We are here today as part of an International Action concerning food sovereignty. We are protesting at Ensus because their use of wheat in producing ethanol is driving wheat prices up around the world causing hardship and starvation.
The protest was very peaceful and looked on by a Police video surveillance van. There were no arrests.
