Kevin & Co Slaughterhouse Closes Down

From the Nottingham Evening Post: The director of a Nottinghamshire slaughterhouse, which set up in the rural village of Westwood, has been charged with cruelty to animals and using the controversial halal method of slaughter.

Amjad Iqbal, one of three directors of Iqbal Poultry Ltd, faces two charges under welfare of animals regulations. The charges date from offences at the factory on October 19 last year.The company, which was based in Westwood, near Selston, faces the same two charges.

Before closing on February 23 this year, more than 100,000 chickens were slaughtered at the factory every week. Mr Iqbal also operates another slaughterhouse in London under the name IHP.

The hearing was adjourned until August 25, when Mr Iqbal will appear again before Nottingham magistrates.

i don't get it, the abattoir went bust cos it went bust. Activists had no hand in this.

I'm gald and everything but - how is this news? There's still a market for meat folks.
