Later in the day comrades went to support a speaker from Tyneside Community Action for Refugees (TCAR), who was speaking on the platform of a meeting called by Tyneside Stop the War Coalition. The TCAR speaker made clear the double of crime of the British Labour government and British companies, which destabilise, occupy and plunder oppressed countries like Iraq and the Congo, and then criminalise and deport those who flee the mess the imperialists have made.
The TCAR speaker's directness was in total contrast to the bewildering opportunism of the Labour councillor who spoke on the platform, who spoke out about the horrors of imperialism as though his own party had nothing to do with it. In their interventions RCG activists exposed the fact that in building a movement against the occupation of Iraq, we are not dealing with 'unity' in the abstract, but with the concrete question of WHO we are in unity with. To argue that one can oppose the war being waged on Iraq by the Labour government by building a coalition based fundamentally on an alliance with that same party is nonsense, and only serves to cover up for the warmongers, and divide the movement from the people we should be in full unity with - the Iraqi people.

People like him do an important job for the ruling class in keeping the struggle 'respectable', and if anyone ever poses a real threat, stabbing them mercilessly in the back. And in general they get paid very well for it. Why do you want to cover up for them?
