Protesting is a bit like banging your head against a proverbial brick wall. The masses will always be subjigated by the elites, because too many people are living in blissful ignorance, and there are always too little people willing to protest at these things.

Oh well it will soon be over when we have World War III because the oil is running out and we need to fight for water. There is also that big doomsday asteroid that is due to hit us in 2035.

Yes, Rich did say "send a powerful message to politicians" and no, it won't.
However, what else could these 300 people realistically and be willing to do - taking into acount that they're not as "revolutionary" as some.
If you (dh and middle finger)are indeed on a higher level than these protesters, how have you got there. If you've never protested before you can't comment. If you have, it was probably an important experience in shaping your current (better?) ideas on tackling world poverty. And if you do have better ideas how about you share them.
One last point, about marketing. Before you try and sell (so to speak) anything, the usual thing to do is to consider how many people will that thing. If people interested in tackling poverty keep showing their faces, even if they ain't doing anything else, they're showing each other they aren't alone. And if there better ways of tackling this problem, it is worth trying because there are people who would listen.

So, instead of separating yourself from these ignorant misguided do-gooders, how about you go down and meet these people and turn them into well informed, tactically correct do-gooders.

Some people might say that 300 people on their own aren't going to change much but they can achieve stuff AS PART OF A BIGGER MOVEMENT that will include about 100,000 people in Edinburgh, some of whom might even join in with G8Alt or Dissent!, at the summit itself. But those people are just WRONG.

To all those who says this type of action is a waste of time , just let the people try new things out and see what happens. if it highlights the G8 summit and mobilises extra people to the demo ,then it is well worth it.

I'm the one who posted it, and even I agree it's not going to do much. However I do feel it's important to support any NGO which is doing good, and it's really not difficult to go and stand around in a white t-shirt one lunch time.
