a night of madness
prescription art is an organisation founded on autonomous principles which runs 14 art spaces within mental health in patient units in leeds. we aim to provide a completely non clinical, non hierarchical, non – judgemental space in which people can be themselves.
as the nhs no longer fund us adequately, despite four years of success we need logistical and financial support to carry on our work. that’s why we are having a benefit night
we are showing the following films
såsom I en spegel/ through a glass darkly
(ingmar bergman)
das weiße rauschen/ the white sound
(this is the out of london uk premiere weirdly and stars daniel bruhl from goodbye lenin)
enduring love
(a documentary about the work of pete shaughnessy, founder of mad pride and the mental patients liberation front)
we are also doing a read through of the following play
a quiet night at the roundhay wing – terry simpson
(a play about angels and lost souls at leeds’ old mental health unit)
and there will be dinner, japanese salads and other delights
(this will be vegetarian and will endeavour to provide a vegan option)
it is on the 20th of march from 18:30 – late
it will be at maelstrom at the old hyde park post office
hyde park corner, leeds
