The Event…
After the success of last years festival, ‘Peace In The Park’ is moving to a much more green, family friendly and pleasant location: Endcliffe Park. There is so much happening (though entirely non-corporate!), this really is a major event you should not miss!
The second PITP, the first one, attended by over 1000 people (on Devonshire Green), was born out of the emerging anti-war movement. This year the festival will be raising money for Water Aid and Assist. Water Aid is an international N.G.O. dedicated to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. Assist is supporting destitute asylum seekers who denied any benefits or housing, have no means of support.
What’s Happening?
Live!
Amongst the many attractions will be a Live Music Stage with some of the best local bands, including: One Eleven Jazz Band, Minnie Moosika, The Fcukwits, Bison, Jamaano, No Excuse, Tommy Binks, Porlock and Double Negative. With music ranging from Jazz to Punk and from Ska to HipHop, those into diversity should have a field day!
Creativity
There is a full program of Kids activities, with workshops in scrap, percussion, costume making, face painting, break-dancing and much more. There’s something for everyone: music, creative workshops, dance, games, theatre performance and samba processions! Circus, talks amd much more….
Dance Grooves…
Dance and party people will be well catered for: Global Rhythms and Urban Grooves marquees will showcase the city’s finest sounds and feature such local D.J talent as Riddimtion, Sophie Toes, Moonmonkey, Scragga, Nice Up Chris, DJ Deadman, Chiv, Mr Meercat, Riles, John W, Pete not Bombs, DJ Disorientalist, DJ Rubbish & Cassette Boy, the Trouble Girls and more.
Thinking Aloud
For the thinking types (and everyone else) there will be info stalls from a range of diverse groups such as the Green party and Sheffield Social Forum, who will launch their 'Democracy café’. The Democracy café is open for people to come and discuss their opinions, whether it be their views of The War on Terrorism, Local Housing, Fair Trade or Swiss Referees!
There will be artistic happenings all over the site, (watch out for the chain saw sculptures!) choirs, and many other exciting activities, keep those eyes peeled…
