Film screening @Leeds, Feb 15th: 'The Fourth World War'

Incitement 2... | 07.02.2004 00:00

Incitement 2, the monthly screening of radical films is happening on Feb 15th at 19:30 @The Packhorse, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds. This month showing 'The Fourth World War' (Free/Donations)

The Fourth World War

Click here to download the movie trailer.

Description:
From the front-lines of conflicts in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'the North' from Seattle to Genova, and the 'War on Terror' in New York, Afghanistan, and Iraq. It is the story of men and women around the world who resist being annihilated in this war.

While our airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human story of this global conflict remains untold. "The Fourth World War" brings together the images and voices of the war on the ground. It is a story of a war without end and of those who resist.

Mere Anarchy Is Loosed

28.01.2004 20:42

How many bridges must we burn till we learn;
the "Leftfeild"

The Second Coming (1921)

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart;
the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming!

Do you mind?

Er, that's one of my all time favourite poem's you've just bowdlerized there. If you're going to quote poetry, at least do the poet the honour of quoting his piece in full rather than arbitrarily setting yourself up as editor. This isn't bloody Hollywood you know!

in full then...

TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

OK the second part is full of Yeat's usual dodgy Golden Dawn style imagery, but I quite like the "what rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?". As usual, no apologies to christians whatsoever.

can anyone give me a copy of one of the poems by suheir hammad, in this film, teh one about the occupation of palestine , it goes a bit like "you do not know of occupation ..." and talks about what it is like to live in occupied land. I've tried looking fo rit on the net, didn't get anywhere.
