Bellway Homes will imminently remove a green wedge site on the edge of Mansfield.
This site contains a number of very old trees including a 300 year-old beech.
To prevent this eventuality there is currently a tree camp. The people on the site are well dug-in, tunnel and tree-houses. However they are in urgent need of support.
Things that are needed include:
-people
-climbers and kit
-diggers and doers
-food
-kitchen tat
-tents & tarps
-usual wishlist items: paint, tools, rope, warm things
Further info: The exact reason for the site removal is to allow Wardell Armstrong to build a link road for a new housing estate. However there are two entry roads to this new estate already, so the belief is that this road is to "open-up" the immediate area for further development.
In addition to this there info suggesting that an illegal eviction is likely, since the Sheriff of Nottingham is too expensive!

SHERWOOD PROTEST CAMP

----------------------We are on the verge of a major breakthrough----------------------
Details are coming in of a major chance to put the whole building scheme in the grave!
Although, as we have said, we are not necessarily against the overall Bellway redevelopment scheme of the former Sherwood colliery site, as Bellway have refused to see reason regarding the loss of so many important trees, we have said that we will save the trees whatever it takes. If that means scuppering the whole building scheme - so be it - Bellway only have themselves to blame.
A few months ago we instructed a solicitor to press for a Judicial Review regarding Mansfield District Council's interpretation of planning law. Mansfield District Council have asked for legal advise from a QC to see if we have a legal case against them regarding the way that they gave planning permission for the scheme. His advise to them is that THEY DID NOT FOLLOW CORRECT PROCEDURES!!
Please be ready to write letters to the planning committee members regarding their duty to revocate permission when they get the chance next month.
I will post all contact details on the official web site and mailing list ( http://groups.msn.com/SherwoodForestSupportersGroup) ASAP
