90% Of World's Countries, 82% Of US States Did Not Execute Prisoners In 2012

Only 20 countries and only 9 US states commited government murder of prisoners in 2012.

The death penalty they say is dying. Only 20 countries of over 200 carried out executions in 2012. These are China, the US, Afghanistan, Botswana, Gambia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Belarus, Taiwan, India (1 execution.) While Israel has not had court ordered executions, its assassinations and war executions are well known. Only 18% of US states were involved in government murder last year. No EU country executes. Only 10% of the world's countries execute. Many of the 20 executing countries are majority Muslim.

Governors Bush and Perry have executed more prisoners than
many countries combined. They have executed citizens of Germany, Canada and Mexico denied the right to contact their consuls.

While Virginia leads the nation in executions, it did not murder prisoners last year, nor did Georgia. It is generally Republican governors involved, although the Democratic president conducts drone assassinations.

While we began to elect senators in the early 20th century,
we still do not elect federal judges or the Supreme Court. It is the 5 ostensibly prolife judges, Republican males, on the unelected court who keep government murder going in the US. It had previously been abolished.

On June 29, 1972, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Furman v. Georgia that the death penalty was unconstitutional. It violates the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. This decision halted all executions in the United States for four years.

Depending upon your source, there are between 193 and 250 countries in the world

It has been doing so for a very long time

The only way to let the death penalty really die soon is changing it into a sanction for regime criminality only - swearing an oath to government equals to taking the risk of death penalty, leaving every individual the chance to avoid it for themselves. Then it could be gone in less than a generation.
