Power and Privilege within - a workshop

Shilpa | 15.03.2011 09:49 | Anti-racism | Culture | Social Struggles | Cambridge

Based on Anti-Oppression training techniques (currently offered in the UK by groups such as Otesha and Platform), this workshop is aimed at people who are part of any group with environmental or social justice goals, who want to become more aware of how power and privilege within their own organisation affects what they do.

Facing Power and Privilege Within
16 March 2011
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
CCF Office, Newmarket Rd, Camb CB5 8HE

Many people working in social and environmental organisations hold justice and equality as key principles.

Yet, we’ve all been to meetings where one or two people dominate or where everyone is from a similar background. The inequality ‘out there’ is often reflected in our own organisations and this hampers our efforts to create major change.

Becoming aware of what’s going on can help. This workshop is aimed at people who are part of any group with environmental or social justice goals, who want to become more aware of how power and privilege within their own organisation affects what they do.

This workshop will be facilitated by Shilpa Shah, co-founder of Cambridge Carbon Footprint’s Akashi project and Rights and Justice Campaigner at Friends of the Earth. The knowledge and experience of all participants will be drawn on – this sharing will be central to our collective learning.

If possible please let us know you’re coming so that we have an idea of numbers by emailing The CCF Office – thank you!  info@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org
