DAY 3 OF MAD SCIENCE MAY UK TOUR - CAMBRIDGESHIRE

Thursday, 28th May

Day 3 of the Mad Science May tour, more collaborators visited, more noise, more pressure, more action.

ASTRAZENECA - First up today was AstraZeneca, this particular branch of the company is the one notable for their olympic security guards. Every time you turn up they shift into red alert. When we arrived we noticed that AstraZeneca had made the effort to put up a gate in attempt to block the gap that activists often use to enter the site. Damn, what's an activist to do?? Well, considering the gate isn't all that tall, the large gaps either side of it, and the tiny barbed wire fences nearby, perhaps they need to practise their brains as well as their wonky legs. Activists decided to sit on the top of the gate to take advantage of the extreme flaws in their new purchase, quick to alert were the security guards, who this time succeeded to keep on their feet, however still weren't as speedy as us SHACtivists. Keep practising, AstraZeneca! Next time we expect to see you hurdling over that gate of yours!

HARLAN - We paid another visit to the people who, just like those at HLS, clearly believe animals to be nothing more than living disposables. Wanting to get a better angle at dishing out the truth to the abusers, we went straight to the sides of the site before proceeding back up to the front gate, making sure that no matter where they were hiding in there we would be clearly noticed. Another loud and noisy demonstration and SHAC will keep on visiting you Harlan until you drop the puppy punchers Huntingdon Life Sciences.

INDUSTRIAL AND SUPPLIES - Third visit was to Industrial and Supplies, however when we turned up and started the demonstration we were quickly greeted by a frustrated manager there. He told about how they'd stopped dealing with Huntingdon Life Sciences, but refused to give a statement of confirmation. He went on to say that "if we found out about them dealing with HLS, surely we can find out they've stopped" and that supporters can "stop ****ing sending these ****ing anonymous letters, emails and telephone calls". Noy us I&S. Although his refusal to give confirmation seems a little suspicious...

PERCIN ALMER - Fourth visit today was to Percin Almer, we were quickly greeted again by a worker from inside - however this was a different type of greeting, clearly over-joyed that we were here he gave us the Thumbs-Up and started jumping up and down smiling! He was disgusted that the company he works for is involved with Huntingdon Life Sciences, the lab that tortures and murders 500 innocent living beings every single day of the week. A different, slightly disturbing type of greeting came from another worker in the building however, when she made a hand-gesture offering her "services", after struggling to pull the blinds shut. Percin Almer, even some of your own workers do not accept the barbarity you are supporting, make the right choice, and drop HLS!

MILLIPORE - Next up was Millipore, we began another demonstration outside their office and soon a worker came out to engage in conversation with us. He first told about how Millipore does not encourage vivisection, and instead only makes alternatives to it. Secondly he mentioned that Millipore is closing in the UK and moving abroad to the USA.
Millipore, if you are against vivisection then cut your ties with Huntingdon Life Sciences, because the filthy HLS exists based around just that. SHAC USA, keep your eyes open for Millipore.

ASTRAZENECA - Finally another trip to Astra Zeneca, this time in Luton.
This branch of AstraZeneca appeared very frustrated upon our arrival, because they'd already been demo'd by other SHACtivists! When we arrived everyone on the scene in there went into panic mode again and some decided to hide behind reception. However the brave security guard stood his ground and signalled how we'd all be "locked up"... whatever for AstraZeneca?! Because we are compassionate individuals standing up against monsters like you supporting horrific animal cruelty?? They can't lock us all up AstraZeneca, and until you cut your ties with HLS you'll be seeing more of SHAC right on your doorstep!

DAY 4 OF MAD SCIENCE MAY UK TOUR - READING

Friday, 29th May

We headed out for the fourth and final day of the tour, to name and shame the remainding companies on our list who have blood money ties with Huntingdon Life Sciences and remind them of the sick and twisted barbarity and scientific fraudulence they are involved with.

SYNGENTA - We first arrived at Syngenta, soon into the demonstration we noticed many of their workers were driving in and out of the site, and as we positioned ourselves right outside their gates they got plenty of greetings from us, SHAC greetings! Other Syngenta staff working near-by got the message loud and clear as well, that if you deal with Huntingdon Life Sciences, you will have to deal with SHAC! Humourously, the security guards at Syngenta couldn't recognise their own workers as they believed one car who went in to be activists! See you again soon Syngenta, unless you cut your ties with HLS.

ABBOTT LABS - The next demonstration was to be at Abbott Labs, here we noticed that the area was quite open-spaced - the sounds of the megaphones would be able to travel far and wide, reminding not only Abbott of the filth they support but also informing surrounding companies about Abbotts' unethical dealings - as members of surrounding companies came to enquire about why we were holding a demonstration against them and once they knew about HLS and Abbott's involvement they appeared shocked and disappointed. Shame on you, Abbott! (From SHAC and your surrounding businesses!)

WYETH - A very short walk across the road, opposite to Abbott, we staged our next demonstration - against Wyeth. Wyeth are also involved in trying to profit from the puppy killers at HLS. Another noisy demonstration ensued as we watched managers and other staff making various phone calls, perhaps they ought to make one to HLS and tell them where to stick their business? You can be sure there'll be more visits for you Wyeth until you make the right decision to stop your dealings with HLS!

HARLAN - The final visit of the day was to another Harlan site. This company is important to animal torture labs such as HLS because they breed and send animals to the sick and twisted vivisectors who will maim and kill these innocent sentient beings. We moved around to the side of the site as well as being at the front gate to make sure the murderers could see and hear us. Harlan, stop trying to tell yourself that your saving lives, as long as you've involved with vivisection all you are doing is taking lives. Blood is on your hands!

This was an excellent tour, over the past 4 days we have named, shamed and exposed many companies who support the notorious Huntingdon Life Sciences and reminded them that as long as they have ties with HLS, SHAC will be visiting them time and time again until they get some ethics, compassion and business sense and drop the puppy punchers, aka Huntingdon Life Sciences.

SHAC will continue taking it up a level for the rst of 2009, to hit Huntingdon Life Sciences and all of their collaborators even harder whilst HLS continue to struggle in their critical condition.

Brian Cass has stated that "The outlook for Huntingdon Life Sciences in 2009 looks uncertain". We must continue the fight to close down this hell-hole, let's take it up a knotch and finish HLS off!

HLS (LSR) INVESTOR BROWN ADVISORY HAS PROTESTS IN USA

Thursday, 28th May

Animal rights activists converged at 901 S Bond St. in Baltimore, at the global HQ offices of Brown Advisory, the #2 institutional investor in Huntingdon Life Sciences (LSR). After a week of sending letters, emails and phone calls to try and set up a meeting to talk to Brown about the horrors that go on inside HLS, it was apparent that demos were needed to show Brown Advisory what they have to put up with when dealing in blood money with HLS. The message is simple, Brown Advisory, you deal with HLS you deal with us!

Upon arrival, activists started chanting outside Brown Advisory with five bullhorns while walking around the building, disrupting their day at the office, while naming and shaming them to their office mates and general public. Activists then stationed themselves on the main sidewalk in front of the entrance for over an hour. In the office building, crowds of employees on all floors were gathering at the windows witnessing the demonstrators belt out demands, “ Brown Advisory, If you want to get some rest, Cut Your ties with HLS” and 500 animals murdered today, Brown Advisory is to blame” with graphic signs and a large banner that reads, “Your business Profits from the murder of 500 animals Evey day. Cut your ties with HLS”.

After about 45 minutes of loud shout outs and chanting, activists were asked by a security guard to cease use of bullhorns, but they still heard
our voices loud and clear. Baltimore City Police showed up right before we ended the demo and were surprisingly very civil and decent towards us, compared to their normal “arrest first/ask questions later” mentality.

Also, Brown Advisory HQ is located is right above an outdoor seating cafe. The owner of the cafe came out and was obviously displeased with the protest. He told police and security guards that we were “scaring customers”. Hopefully he will take that up with Brown Advisory and that will put more pressure on BA to drop HLS like a bad habit.

We are not going away until you completely divest from HLS (LSR). You have a lot of offices around the Baltimore/DC area and a lot of employees that live in the area. Make it easy on yourself, divest all 161,000+ shares and you will not hear from us again. That is a promise you can take to the bank, Brown Advisory!

MAD SCIENCE MAY WEEK OF ACTION IN SWEDEN

25th May - 29th May

Activists in Stockholm take the message out on the streets and to the doors of HLS collaborators.

It has been a busy week for animal rights campaigners in Stockholm, Sweden. Even though few in numbers, we made sure that our message came across to those involved with Huntingdon Life Science.

During the week it has been several demonstrations on several days against Schering Plough, Abbot, GSK, Novartis and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Lots of people has showed their support for the campaign to close down HLS.
To finish the week off, a march was held through the streets of Stockholm to the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (SMI), the only laboratory in Scandinavia that is still using primates as well as thousand of other animals in painful experiments. Around 80 people marched there and made people aware of animal experiments and at the lab we tied bloody gloves to the fence of the torture lab.

Until all animals are free!

MAD SCIENCE WEEK - PROTESTS IN BUENOS AIRES

Friday, 29th May

Under the international campaign launched by SHAC against the animal testing laboratory HLS and their main customers (Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Glaxo SmithKline), we carried out protests during the Mad Science May week of action.

Demonstrations was called by the Coordinator for the Animal Liberation membership position against the practice of vivisection carried out and financed by these laboratories and companies. This call was made more precisely in the Obelisk of Buenos Aires City, where they handed out leaflets explaining the actions of these companies and their general oppressive impact. In turn, mounted posters with pictures and posters with the names of these three companies linked to HLS, which have separate headquarters in this city.

During recent years, HLS has been losing momentum worldwide due to the large and growing rejection of experimentation on animals from different groups and society in general. Laboratories, HLS customers, insurers and other companies of its facilities are moving away gradually as partners and that will weaken the structure and power. If we continue to campaign, boycott and discredit these "brands, companies that hire the services of HLS, will simply fail to consume their products will provide support in the decommissioning of HLS.

Until all are free.
