The dreams of a community cut short by corporate greed.

The camera never lies, so the saying goes, well, even though it is not strictly 'news', I thought I should publish for you the truth of something as it is now, so here are some pictures of what is left of Mill Road Social Centre after the Tescos bailiffs have had their wicked way.

"THANX ALOT TESCOS".
"THANX ALOT TESCOS".

So, this is all that is left of a place that brought joy to many people, where you could go to dance, rollerskate, paint pictures, exhibit pictures, sing and play music, have meetings, or just sit and hang out with friends and comrades.

This is all that is left after a fit of pique on the part of Tescos, whom couldn't (and still can't) make use the of the building that had already stood empty for several years before MRSC put it to far better use than just yet another mere retail unit.

As if we don't have enough of those in this town already.

For a short period of time it became a place where peoples' hopes and dreams could be made real, if they were willing to put them into action - a blank canvas for the whole community to paint upon.

Now, this has been stubbed out in its prime by a greedy corporation whose only aim in its shallow existence seems to be the pursuit of profit, regardless of consequences to (or the opinions of) any host community.

Those of us who experienced this little island of sanity will not forget how precious it was, and we will also remember what you did by snuffing it out.

I hope you are pleased with yourselves Tescos.
