Successful first test ride for cycling cinema

Platypus Bill | 25.07.2007 08:16 | Culture | Ecology | Cambridge

On the night of Tuesday the 24th of July, the Magnificent Revolutionary Cycling Cinema had it first test run. Around twenty five pedalistos and well-wishers gathered at the shed behind the Portland Arms in Cambridge and watched a film about the Naked Bike Ride, generating the electricity required to run the sound and projection system by their own pedal power.

And we're off...
And we're off...

All ten bikes are go.
All ten bikes are go.

This was a carbon neutral event.
This was a carbon neutral event.

Thus spoke Zarathustra.
Thus spoke Zarathustra.

As the night wears on...
As the night wears on...

... more miles are clocked up ...
... more miles are clocked up ...

... and the mood is turning ever more lively.
... and the mood is turning ever more lively.

Bar a few hitches (people tripping over wires, a dodgy battery, that sort of thing) everything went smoothly, and 1 KWh of electricity was generated, in addition to much sweat and bonhomie. After a few more test runs, the Cycle Cinema will first travel to the Big Chill Festival, and then alight at the Climate Camp near Heathrow.
