Inspiring Action

Shilpa | 05.03.2007 09:47 | Climate Chaos | Social Struggles | Terror War | Cambridge

Wanna change the world? If you're always signing petitions and sending emails demanding change to those 'in power', join InspireAction and tell others about it!

Join InspireAction and share info about worthwhile e-actions. I'm not suggesting it as an alternative to getting out on the streets but there are different ways of communicating and acting collectively, right?

Check out  http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/inspireaction/

The aim of this simple Yahoo group is to share information about a campaigning action you feel is worthwhile doing, in order to increase its chance of success. You won't be flooded with loads of emails or spam, but you wil hear about lots of exciting actons and have a forum for sharing ones that you find.

Perhaps you have written to your MP, a cabinet member or a business person about a particular problem which you feel strongly about, in Cambridge, in the UK or in another country. Or perhaps you have written to a corporation, a channel of media or a person in power abroad or signed an e-petition?

One letter/email raises awareness, 50 messages say 'OI! This issue really matters to people!'. The subjects of the alerts will be shaped by the members of the group; climate change, genocide, nuclear disarmament, the 'war on terror', organic food standards, expansion of airports, 'third world' debt, trade justice, corporate accountability, the encroaching privatisation of the NHS, train ticket prices ... it's up to us! This is a great way of learning about issues too.

Ideas for actions may also be found on websites of campaigning organisations such as Friends of the Earth, Amnesty, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament etc, in the media and perhaps via your contacts.

An email to  inspireaction@yahoogroups.co.uk will share the action with the group.

As group member, you are asked to contribute at least one action alert every month and you are asked to respond to at least 3 action alerts for causes that you agree with each month. Of course everyone is encouraged to contribute more, but if we aim for a basic standard, we can ensure this doesn't turn into just a talking shop.

You can arrange to recieve 'Digest' emails, so that you do not receive each email separately. Please choose this option when you join. Your preferences can be changed at any time, including removing your membership from the group if you wish.

Further instructions for how to contribute an Action Alert will be sent to you in an email after joining. Please email  mailforshilpa@yahoo.co.uk with any questions.

Thank you!
