Willow Walker

Cheeky Chicken | 06.09.2006 12:30 | Social Struggles | Cambridge | Oxford

A gig to raise funds for the Willow Walker will be held at the Guildhall in Cambridge. It starts at 8 oclock

From its origins as an in-house Newsletter for ECHG’s hostel at Willow Walk – the Willow Walker has grown over recent years into a popular and free quarterly street magazine for Cambridge. Several articles from the Willow Walker have been subsequently re-published by the Guardian Newspaper and their commitment to the magazine is ongoing.

2000 copies of each issue are distributed to Cambridge Homelessness projects and their neighbours, probation services, city and county councillors, local and copyright libraries and selected city centre cafés, bars, shops and leisure facilities.

Cambridge based homeless musicians are joining forces with 209radio to put on a benefit concert in aid of the Willow Walker magazine and Cambridge’s community radio station - 209 Radio.

The concert is highly likely! to include original songs from whimsical punk rocker Ian Yardley, folk classics from Cate Williams, feisty improv blues by Toby Peters, The Sheds, Jay, Malcolm Driver, Pez, Freeman Freebyrd and upcoming young MC Rapper ‘Simbad Fresh’ with the Merciless Soldiers present The Restoration Crew + Club Global’s DJ Skunk with video projections by Maggie Bradley. The final line-up is to be finally confirmed and will ALSO include a headlining local band.
