Demo to Re-Instate Jerry Hicks - Cambridge transport

Nick Savage | 16.08.2005 14:14 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Cambridge

On 11th August Jerry Hcks spoke at a meeting in Cambridge organised by the Amicus Cambridge Central branch (which covers workers at Marshall Aerospace) and supported by Cambridge Trades Union Council. After hearing Jerry's powerful denunciation of his treatment by Rolls Royce, the meeting unanimously agreed to urge local union branches and union members to do everything possible to help secure Jerry's re-instatement:

Things you can do to help:

- Rush messages of support to the Test area shop steward Jon Locke, in order to show the breadth of support for Jerry's re-instatement:  jw1610@blueyonder.co.uk

- Send a message to Amicus General Secretary Derek Simpson congratulating Amicus for officially supporting the dispute and urging Amicus not to settle for anything less than Jerry's re-instatement:  derek.simpson@amicustheunion.org

- Bombard Rolls Royce with messages, phone calls, and faxes demanding Jerry's immediate re-instatement to make sure they understand the breadth of support Jerry has throughout the trade union movement: Rolls Royce International, 65 Buckingham Gate, London, SW1E 6AT; phone: 020 7222 9020; fax: 020 7227 9178.

- Organise a collection or levy amongst your union members and/or friends. Send financial donations to AEU Stewards Body - Test Area, c/o Jerry Hicks, 10 York Road, Montpelier, Bristol, BS6 5QE. Cheques should be made payable to AEU Stewards Body - Test Area.

- Invite in Jerry to speak at a meeting of your union branch. Contact Jon Locke (e-mail address above) in order to invite Jerry.

- Support the demonstration in support of Jerry's re-instatement being held in Bristol on Friday, 2nd September. A coach from Cambridge is currently being organised. Your union branch can pay for seats for its members or for unemployed people in Cambridge who wish to attend the demonstration. For further details about the coach, please contact Martin Barrett (Marshall Aeropace Amicus deputy convenor); phone: 01223.373456; e-mail:  martin.barrett@marshallaerospace.com

- Keep up-to-date with the campaign for Jerry's re-instatement by logging on to the campaign website:  http://www.union.coreoperations.co.uk/rolls

- Circulate information about the campaign for Jerry's re-instatement as widely as possible.
