Diggers invade the Walks - for a funfair

Sunday 5 June saw the Lions annual funday in the Walks, back to its normal time of year after last year's merger with the charter carnival.

The rain dampened visitor numbers, but there still seemed to be a good turnout. The biggest event in the arena was the Imps motorcycle display team.

There was a good number of volunteer-run stalls along the Tennyson Road edge of the fair and the King's Lynn Model Engineers moved their regular Sunday afternoon train run from Lynnsport to a short track in the Walks for the day.

The funfair continued into the early evening, with one of the more surprising rides being "Digger Dan" which gave people spins in the bucket of a mechanical digger. The Walks are currently under threat from a "Restoration" project which may see diggers used to enlarge the land drains and prepare for new trees on the Walks. One or two of the visitors to the fair were afraid that work was about to start after the fair - fortunately, the Council is still only at the tendering stage and there should be public meetings this month or next. Visit the Walks Action Group site for more details.
