So, Why Is Our Post Office Closing..?

Public Service Assistant | 11.03.2005 23:41 | Cambridge | London

I called the Royal Mail Customer Complaint Helpline today to try and find out if they could tell me why my local Post Office is closing.

The mp3 below is the result of my enquiries.

Complaints Helpline Interview - mp3 4.7M

This was recorded using a Dictaphone, so, it's a bit lofi.
It's quite a long interview (about 13 minutes), but, it needed to be to cover all bases.

Improve your word power:

NETWORK REINVENTION

A euphemism for The Royal Mail's current mass closures (aka 'streamlining') of local Post Office branches around the country.

Now, there's a phrase you don't hear too often.

According what I was told in this interview, this 'Network Reinvention' (for the Cambridge area at least) has now come to it's grisly conclusion.
That's not to say they won't shut down more branches in the future, if they're deemed not to be making a profit.

Oh yes, and the Post Office is a business, not a public service apparently.

Now you know.

Phoning these people and recording the conversation is a brilliant idea! Keep up the good work! What about NTL, Network Rail, ...
