NO GM Maize will be planted in the UK until at least 2005.
Then the GM Maize license at EU level runs out in 2006, so it could only be grown for a year at most.
Farmer Brigham, in Norfolk, is the 1st farmer to say he is definitely going to plant GM Maize as soon as he can! HE says he "cant wait!"
Theres also stuff like legal challenges from FoE for them to deal with. Also, The Scottish and Welsh devolved powers are saying no to GM going on the national seed list. For GM Maize to be grown, it must be on that list. Accordingly, wales and scotland are effectively vetoeing the maize at the mo, tho Scotland looks like its starting to give in, so give em hell!
Enjoy, and happy gardening...!

GM Crops given the go-ahead by neo-Labour
09.03.2004 15:43
The New Labour/Tory party, went ahead with its evil plans despite the fact that the majority of the population are strongly against it. So what's new, we was against that illegal and immoral Iraq war/invasion.
So if an organisation like the B.M.A. Is against the stated policy, you change the leader and say that what was said before was wrong. “Never, we don't buy it Blair.” Feels a bit like what they did to the BBC, it is clear that the editorial output has changed with the change of administration.
At the end of the day Bush says we go to war, so we go to war, Bush says we must take GM, so we take GM. Who do our elected officials work for us or Bush, I really wonder, its not just this but the deeper you look the more you find, Star Wars, accepted without debate, European trade rules dictated by American controlled organisations, this madness must stop.
Bush and Blair the evil pair.
