last Friday evening, 52 people signed postcards to the Greek ambassador,
400 leaflets were doled out and we made 28 squid in donations (thanks mainly to
the amazing bloke who gave us 20 squid!) Also thanks to George we had a laptop
so we were able to show passers by the video evidence of Simon's blatant
fit-up at the hands of the cops.
As previous emails have shown the situation is now getting very
desperate, so it is crucial that we keep this pressure up. The authorities
in Greece are begining to respond to what is essentially a PR disaster at
a very inopportune time for them (they are hosting the olympics in 2004(?)
so they want to keep their image squeaky clean right now) by promising
investigations into police misconduct etc... Therefore the solidarity
campaign IS WORKING and we must continue it.
So THIS TUESDAY meet in the KINGS BAR at MIDDAY if you want to
help out with the next stall. Loads of people have heard about this case
and are prepared to give their support, and ultimately it is only this
level of public interest in the prisoners' welfare that gives them any
hope of seeing justice done.
lotsa love mAt

This afternoon the greek authrorites issued a
statement denying the release of the five hunger
strikers despite their worsening critical health &
calls by independent doctors that they should be
urgently admitted to civilian hospital for immediate
treatment.
This means the hunger strikers will almost certainly
suffer permanent damage to their health with the
increasing likelihood of death if their demands to be
released aren't met by the greek state.
There will be a demonstration this afternoon 4pm -7pm
outside the greek embassy in london
to show solidarity with the hunger strikers & demand
that the greek state releases the prisoners
immmediately.
Your support is vital. Bring your voice. Your friends.
Your anger. These people mustn't be allowed to die.
Meet at:

a press release will be issued later with details of
the greek authorities statement
