USAF Lakenheath weapons inspection Dec 5

cambridge indymedia | 16.11.2002 20:20 | Cambridge

Fresh from last week's occupation of a university weapons laboratory, Cambridge Students Against War (CamSAW) is planning another action, this time scheduled for 5 December 2002: an inspection of the U.S. Air Force base at Lakenheath, only 70 miles from London. It is believed that the base contains about 30 tactical nuclear weapons, and possibly other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). Donald Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense, has refused to rule out the use of such weapons in the projected attack on Iraq.

All anti-war individuals and groups are encouraged to take part in the inspection, which will be conducted under the following guidelines:

a)  Nonviolence towards people
b)  Nondestruction of property
c)  No alcohol or illicit drugs
d)  Do not bring anything that could be even remotely construed as a weapon

Besides weapons inspectors, there will also be vital need for people to act in support roles outside the base - bearing witness to the action, acting as independent observers and indymedia teams, and the like.

Please note that Cambridge is only a 45 minute train ride from King's Cross station.

A little thought about your website

16.11.2002 21:00

Glasnost is all well and good, and the web is a good way to distribute information, but do you think it prudent to keep you minutes on the web? At minimum password protection might be advisable? Paper copies, perhaps with minor variations in text, distributed by hand might be safer?

Non destruction?

Nondestruction of property ? This means no fence cutting. How are you going to inspect, then ? It's not like they'll let you in or something...
