Coach Oxford to London - 29 Jan - Anti-cuts, Save EMA

There's a national protest against fees and funding / EMA cuts in London this Saturday - it was mentioned at the OEC meeting that Oxford Right To Work have organised a coach but will have to cancel it unless more people use it. People seemed very up for getting some good action done. Should be good in its own right, and it should give us food for thought re. tactics for March.
It's £5 waged, £10 unwaged, leaves St. Giles at 9.30 and leaves London (Malet St. area) at 4.30. Read more >>

Notes from an Occupation

On 24th November, as part of the first National Day of Action Against Fees and Cuts, the Radcliffe Camera, a central library of Oxford University, was stormed and occupied by around 200 people. The building was occupied for 28 hours until being raided and evicted by police. The occupation involved students from Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University, Ruskin, and many other educational institutions in Oxford. The intention of the occupation was to open the university library as a resource for the entire community. However, police and security colluded to deny access to anyone who attempted to enter. Below is a text begun within the Radcliffe Camera and completed after eviction. It was composed by a few not all of the those involved in the Radcliffe Camera Occupation, and neccessarily does not represent everyone's views. Read more >>

Well, when we occupied the Radcliffe Camera library we did our best to get it open for all Oxford residents, not just privileged students. But Oxford University decided it would rather have it open to nobody. Just goes to show that if you want education that's free, accessible and progressive you have to DO IT YOURSELF. Read more >>

Notes from an Occupier (Oxford)

It is now 24 hours since we (the protesters) were evicted from the Radcliffe Camera library, part of the beautiful and no doubt invaluable Bodleian library. In that time, all I seem to have done is talk, write and read about the student and public protests, which are sweeping the country. I’ve also had time to process everything that happened and come to some conclusions about why direct action against education and public sector cuts, conducted peacefully (not to be confused with quietly) is absolutely justified and necessary.
